On Being a Twin

I didn’t start my journey alone! My twin brother arrived 14 minutes before I did, and we have been savouring the journey together ever since. We arrived a month early and spent some time incubators. I was out first, anxious to get started.

Having a twin has been an amazing blessing. Someone to be with me through all the trials and tribulations of growing up and facing the world. Paul and I started off making magazines in elementary school and moved on to scripting and creating cine films with friends and then TV shows for our high school media program.

Paul joined me on the adventure of starting all my enterprises.

Childhood

I was born in Toronto Canada (along with Paul, of course!). Our parents and brother and sister had emigrated from England. We then moved to the USA and the final sibling, another sister was born. Most of my childhood was in Chelmsford MA. Our holidays were always family camping trips, with tales around the campfire.

Boy Scouts

Boy Scouts were an important part of growing up and taught me skills of working with others and completing goals. I was award Eagle Scout. In 2018, as an adult, I was awarded Distinguished Eagle Award, given to Eagle Scouts who have risen to a state of fame or eminence in his chosen life work.

Actually, that photo could be Paul and not me!

Work

My first job from university, was with a start up ed tech firm Tom Snyder Productions (TSP) in 1983, when computers were new to the classroom, I learned the ed tech world from the ground up and helped grow TSP into the premier classroom software company.  When it was bought out, I started FableVision with support from Paul, which now has 2 elements, FableVision Studios ,which creates some of the best digital media around, as well as FableVision Learning, which provides creativity support to school districts. Finally, a not-for-profit The Reynolds Center for Teaching Learning and Creative allow us to find ways to work on initiatives that might now see the light of day.

Life Now

I live in Dedham, Massachusetts as does Paul and his family. I have both a daughter and a son.

My days revolve around writing my next book, keynotes, school visits, podcasts, online talks, making and sipping coffee at the Blue Bunny Bookstore and Coffee Shop.

I am actively involved in civic projects in the town and do what I can to ensure Dedham is a wonderful place to live. In fact, I was a founder of the Dedham Square Circle to help make Dedham an excellent place to live, work and visit.
